Design with Resonance is about creating work that goes beyond surface-level appeal. It’s about making connections, evoking emotions, and leaving a lasting impression. I make this connection by adhering to these three personal design principles: Alignment, Clarity and Balance.
ALIGNMENT
The first step in all of my projects is alignment. This involves gathering all stakeholders and compiling a comprehensive list of parameters, needs, and wants. By putting everything on the table, we gain a complete understanding of the project’s scope – both explicit and implicit. It’s about ensuring that every voice is heard and every consideration is acknowledged, forming the foundation upon which the project is built.
CLARITY
With all the parameters identified, the next principle is clarity. This is where we define what a successful outcome looks like. This involves creating a clear, concise definition of the problem and the desired solution. Throughout the project, this definition is the guiding star. It keeps us focused, ensuring that every decision made aligns with our ultimate goals. This clarity eliminates ambiguity and provides a solid framework for measuring progress and success.
BALANCE
The final principle is balance. Balancing the parameters set during alignment against the clarity of our defined outcomes is essential for creating design that resonates. It’s a delicate dance of incorporating various considerations while enhancing the overall value. The goal is to be additive, to enrich the design rather than dilute it. Achieving balance ensures that the final solution is not only functional and effective but also emotionally engaging and impactful.
